Saturdays at your club ... what goes on?

One aspect of our facility operation that many members may have never witnessed first hand, is the incredibly diverse range of events that are held every Saturday at our club. Breaking the day down into a.m. and p.m. event slots, the club is often busy from 9am, to midnight or later - depending on how well we can blend the transition. From members renting ice and/or the hall for a family/office event, to one of the many bonspiels that we host for charitable organizations each year, such as this past weekend - The Annual Marv Valensky/Kidney Foundation of Kingston Stick Spiel, the Royal Kingston Curling Club is offering services, both curling and non-curling, 7 days a week ... every week ... to members and non-members.

While the primary function of our club, especially during the very busy winter season, is most definitely curling, we have worked hard to develop other avenues of business that insure we remain busy and profitable throughout the year. By working with charitable groups and the local community, the Royal Kingston Curling Club has quickly developed an excellent reputation for our Days Road facility, a reputation that attracts groups and individuals to the amenities that we have to offer - 6 of the best curling sheets in Ontario ... a clean, well furnished lounge and bar for up to 238 people ... a kitchen that most caterers only dream about ... a central city location, with plenty of parking for any event. This reputation as a friendly and professional rental facility not only serves our members, as it recently did for newlyweds Michele and Barry Miller (son of members Linda and Gene Miller), who were married in the Hall of Fame lobby, but it attracts distinguished, charitable groups such as the Cancer Society, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, the Kidney Foundation of Canada, and Epilepsy Kingston, all of which have held successful fundraisers at our club in the last year.

In addition to the above listed organizations, other community groups/associations/educational institutions that have held functions at our club in the past year include the ParaSport Winter Games, Community Living Kingston, PCL contractors, Kingston Construction Association (KCA), Bell employees, the City of Kingston, Open Text, Quill, Queen's University, St.Lawrence College, Limestone District School Board and the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board. By utilizing and filling holes in our curling calendar, we are able to entertain a very diverse range of citizens from the Kingston area and beyond. And, each and every time a group visits RKCC we, while generating revenue that adds considerably to the health of our club, are afforded an opportunity to market our sport to potential curlers and future members ... a real win/win situation.

With each successive season, our curling schedule evolves to suit the needs of our members, as it always has and always will. For my part, I will continue to work at fully utilizing the available time on weekends, and through the week, in order to help contribute to the very healthy condition of our club.

Thanks to all the members for what is turning out to be a very enjoyable and successful year. With practice, and patience, I know that we will find the ideal mix of facility usage to best serve all the members of RKCC.

Good Curling!
