Don Cameron's 2 year Labour of Love ...

It started about 2 years ago ... Don Cameron (pictured above with his donated pin project) decided that he wanted to help enhance the atmosphere at our new club: to add a bit of curling history to the walls of the Royal Kingston that members and guests alike could enjoy for years to come.

A pin collector himself, Don put out a call to members requesting the good hearted donation of any and all curling pins possible. The idea was to compile a collection of pins and display them for viewing at the club. In no time, donations began pouring in and Don was up to his knees in collectibles from all across Canada, the United States and even Europe! It must have taken Don hours and hours just to weed out the duplicates, never mind the time needed to pick out the individual specimens that would end up being mounted to the display! When you get a chance to view the collection for yourself, the dedication required will become more obvious.

After selecting the pins to be included, all 340 of them, the only question remained was how to display them. Ideas were considered for the better part of two seasons before the wall mounted framing was agreed upon. Five individual, glassed frames were needed to finish the project, and each one was mounted on a finished, wooden wall mount. The center frame, pictured above, has a plaque dedicating the collection and thanking the individual pin sponsors. While I will leave it to you to browse the names listed, it is worth noting the special contribution of two other specific members. Brian Collingwood, who helped with the project design, and Bill Duffe, who helped with the assembly and mounting of the collection - thank you, gentlemen!

However, the credit has to go to Don Cameron for this very impressive addition to RKCC! Don donated the time, and paid for the project out of his own pocket, as a personal donation to the club he loves. After you have had a chance to take a look, and you are welcome to throughout the summer, please stop Don, in the hall or at the bar, and offer your thanks ... I know it would warm his heart!

From the Manager's desk - thanks, Don.

please note - the club will be officially acknowledging Don's donation some time near the beginning of the new curling season, when all members are back to the club.
